Day 1: CUSCO – TINKI
Early in the morning we will pass by your hotel to begin the great adventure to Ausangate, we head to the south east of the city of Cusco, we will travel along a surrounded road on a bus, a 2:30 hour trip to the village of Tinqui, the starting point of the walk. Passing several traditional villages along the route, they include Urcos, Cattca and Ocongate, picturesque little towns that still preserve ancestral customs and ways that enrich our Inka culture until we reach Tinqui (3850 meters above sea level) where we will have lunch and then continue to the first shelter called PucaRumi.
We will head towards the community of Tinki which is 6 hours away by car. On the way we will pass through the district of Urcos at 3,150 meters above sea level, among its attractions is the lagoon and its famous artisanal bread.
Continuing with our trip we will arrive at “Muñapata” at 3,188 meters above sea level, the route connects with the South Interoceanic Highway.
We continue an ascent until we reach Ccatca at 3,700 meters above sea level, a place that has lagoons and Andean plains covered with ichu (straw), we will stop to enjoy a delicious lunch based on Andean ingredients.
Continuing the tour through the Vilcanota mountain range, you will come across communities with ancestral customs and traditional clothing such as the Combapata district.
We will arrive at “Tinki”, our first camp and the beginning of our walk.
We have lunch and in the afternoon we will be free to explore the surroundings, observe snowcapped mountains, a variety of flora and fauna and hot springs.
The walking time on this day varies from 6 to 7 hours. At our camp we will have dinner and sleep comfortably until the next day.
Day 2: Tinki - Puca Rumi to Upis (4,400 m)
After placing the equipment and getting familiar with your horses, the walk will begin surrounded by landscapes like something out of watercolors, fresh air and a silent natural silence that will allow you to think about everything from the simplest to the most complex of our existence in this planet. You will spend about 5 hours walking to reach the community of Upis (4400 masl) where we will have a local lunch, after lunch we can visit the Puca Cocha lagoon which is one hour from Upis and then we will attend the rustic but healthy and relaxing Thermo medicinal baths of the Community called Aguas Calientes Upisbest can be found in Pacchanta on the fourth day of the walk.
Day 3: Upis - Arapo Pass - Ausangate Extreme Pass - Ausangate Lagoon - Palomani Pass - Huchuy Phynaya.
Very early and after breakfast we will depart on a long, tiring but pleasant walk that will take us to the first pass known as Arapa (4800 meters above sea level) from where we will be able to contemplate the mountain range and all its shades of colors due to the vegetation in the area. We will continue descending. towards Yana Cocha (4500 meters above sea level) or black lagoon where we will have an improvised picnic surrounded by a spectacular view, after a short rest we start ascending towards the highest point of this route to the Ausangate Extreme Pass (4850 meters above sea level) from where we will feel the touch the sky with our hands and we will also contemplate all the beauty that the high Andean nature offers us, already somewhat tired but satisfied with everything we have experienced, we will descend to the edge of Ausangate Lagoon (46,500 meters above sea level) where we will ascend to the highest pass of this expedition, called Palomani Pass (5200 meters above sea level) from where we will have a spectacular and breathtaking view, over the Ausangate Mountains that I can assure you will take your breath away.
Today is an important day, we are going to reach the first of the two high altitude passes, Palomani open. It is a short walk uphill from our camp to the highest pass of our hike. We are going to enjoy a unique landscape above 5,000 meters above sea level.
With some nostalgia but quite cold, we will descend a little through a valley where we can camp and after a refreshing dinner we will spend the night.
Day 4: Huchuy Phynaya -Hatunpampa - Abra Jampa - Pacchanta
After breakfast and when the dawn barely breaks, we will begin the adventure and the reason why it was worth choosing to do this walk and where we will test the most perfect machine that nature could create, “the human body.” We will begin the walk with a small climb to the place called Jampa (4700 m.a.s.l.), Paso Campa (5100 m.a.s.l.), Beautiful Andean landscape where camelids coexist with the mountain peaks, watched over by the spectacular Colquecruz snow-capped peak. We follow the path downhill to our lunch place and then continue downhill towards the thermo-medicinal baths of Pacchanta (4350m.a.s.l.) where we will take a relaxing bath. An excellent end to one of the hardest days of our hike.
Day 5: Pacchanta – Tinki – Cusco
We return to the town of Tinki where we take our transportation back to the city of Cusco, where we will have a transfer back to their respective hotels. End of our services.

Unfortunately the answer is NO (this applies to the Inca Trail). Once the permits or entrance tickets have been bought the government does not allow any changes, so we can’t change any departure date after the permits or ticket has been bought. Tickets are also not transferable nor refundable. You must ensure you are reserving the correct dates! Double check the date on your booking form because we buy your permits as soon as we have your booking form and deposit. Often there are limited spaces and we must purchase them immediately. They are paid for completely as soon as your complete your booking and deposit, which means that you must buy completely new permits if you change your dates. All of the permits and tickets sold by the Peruvian government are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
In regards to Alternative Treks, it may be possible to change your date for an additional fee. Please contact the office as soon as possible if this occurs so we can assist you in this matter.
*** If you cancel your tour or trek, the deposit is NOT refundable!

Yes, we are a local sustainable & responsible tour operator that incorporates the universal principles of tourism: protect the environment and benefit the local communities respecting their culture and religion. With this in mind, we have trained all our staff to know, understand and respect local places and its people.
Usually, May to October is considered the best period to visit Machu Picchu, as it is the dry season. However, it can get pretty crowded, especially during July and August, somewhat ruining the spiritual dimension of the experience. Besides, nights can get quite cold during these months.
The rainy season, from November to April, brings heavy rains, with most precipitations coming down in January and February. It’s usually clear and dry most mornings with outbursts of heavy rain in the afternoons. During this period, some roads might be closed by landslides or flooding, in particular those leading to villages off the beaten track. And still, some people will take more pleasure in travelling during this period, as there are much less tourists around and a can a more mystic atmosphere can be experienced. Just consider the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is usually closed during February for maintenance.
The dry season, which runs from April to October is the best time (and most popular) to hike because of the milder daytime weather. You will need to make your reservations 3-6 months in advance if you want to be assured of space during this time. During the rainy season, the Trail is less crowded and less advance time is required for reservations. The Inca Trail is closed during the month of February each year.
All guides for tours are bilingual (Spanish and English) and have received course work and graduated from a certified guide program. They are licensed by the INC. If they are doing any tours at Machu Picchu, they must have additional courses and certification to do so.
Note that most of your guides will also be fluent in Quechua, the language of the native people in rural areas. They may also speak German, French, or other languages.
Yes, there is a “local” train between Cuzco and Aguas Calientes but the government has decided that it is only for Peruvian and local residents and they have to show a Peruvian ID. Tourists cannot take it.
If you choose the 1-day tour, your luggage will theoretically stay in Cusco. However, if you choose the 2-day tour, you will maybe need to leave your luggage in Cusco. Most of the places where you might stay (hotel, hostel, guest house) offer to guard your luggage for free during the tour. But we can also gladly do it; just bring your luggage to our Agency the day before the tour.
All camping equipment will be provided by the tour operator, including tents, sleeping bags, cookware etc. please check our inclusion link.
This entirely depends on your preferences and budget. In our example itineraries all accommodation is chosen primarily for its character, location and quality of service, and rooms will normally have private bathrooms. We offer 2-3 star hotels.
